Central Registration & Identification Scheme
CRiS was established by The National Caravan Council (NCC) and was set up to provide a system of registering the ‘keeper’ details of every touring caravan manufactured by member companies. The aim was to help prevent caravan related crime.
New touring caravans are given their own 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number or VIN. This unique number is stamped into the chassis. Each window is etched with the same number and it may also be recorded onto an electronic tag.
CRiS registration can help to recover stolen caravans. It is also useful for anyone looking to buy a used caravan by enabling security checks; the make and model can be confirmed against the registered VIN. It can also tell you whether the caravan is stolen, written off, or if any finance is outstanding.
What Do The CRiS Numbers Mean?
SGDST2ASW70845325 – The first two letter refer to which country in which the caravan was manufactured. SG = made in the UK.
SGDST2ASW70845325 – The third character relates to the manufacturer. Use of this letter can vary.
SGDST2ASW70845325 – This relates to whether the caravan is either single or twin axle.
SGDST2ASW70845325 – Manufacturer detail relating to the model.

The caravan manufacturing year run from 1st September to 31st August. Therefore a caravan built between between September 1st 2006 and 31st August 2007 would show a build year code “7” for 2007.
